Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to come and see Jane. She has been hinting for a few years now that she would really, REALLY like a SURPRISE party. Of course I've been ignoring her, partly because it's never been quite the right time, and partly to ensure that when we do arrange one - it's actually a suprise! With her birthday on the 9th of December, the time has come. In August.
So far so good. I think the greatest risk has been that I would tell her - either accidentally (we have a joint bank account that she tracks like a bloodhound) or when I divulge it under cross-examination. My hope is that we are able to video her as we all shout "SURPRISE" and only then she realises what's happening!

On the day
To preserve the surprise please either arrive before 1:30pm, or after 2:30pm.
I will be doing my best to bring Jane in at 2pm.
The road onto the island can be a bit busy in the summer, so please allow time to accommodate the traffic and the walk from parking to our house.
Timings
1:30pm last "surprise" guest arrival
2:00pm SURPRISE! as Jane arrives
2:30pm Lunch is served
4:30pm Trip to the beach
6:30pm Light supper
7:00pm Disco
9:00pm Karaoke
10:00pm Carriages
Party
384b Sea Front, Hayling Island
Feel free to drop people off here, but please do not park at the property.
Important note about how to find us: we are BEHIND 384 - in fact the best way to find us is to turn in at 386 and keep going down that drive - we're at the back.
Parking
Parking on Hayling can be a little tricky, especially in the height of the tourist season, so may require some exploration. I recommend trying St Catherine's Road: PO11 0HF
The closest section has double-yellow lines, but a little further back up the road there is no restriction, and it's free!
Signs advise no parking on the verge
It's around 8 mins walk to the party
Alternatively consider West Beach Car Park or St Thomas Avenue.
Bring a Bottle
We'll be well equipped with lots of soft drinks and food. If you'd like to drink alcohol you are very welcome, but please bring it yourself 🙂

Just your presence
I'm sure you would kindly be thinking of bringing Jane a 50th birthday present, but please let me emphasise that the greatest gift you can bring is yourself. Jane will be delighted simply to see you, and to know that you are thinking of her.
If you really do want to get her something, please consider a Dobbies Garden Centre gift card or the RNIB as an excellent good cause.
Make a statement
For Jane’s upcoming actual 50th birthday on December 9th, I’m planning a special surprise – a book filled with photos, stories, and memories from the party and before. I know she would be absolutely delighted if you were to contribute your personal perspective to this cherished keepsake. Whether you’ve known Jane for years or have only recently met her, your contributions are invaluable. You might share:
